Zamboanga to Aparri to Manila. Turismo Pilipino ’69 is easily the year’s boldest and most adventurous motoring event. It is also the most gruelling. A unique test that required the best of men and machines. 12 men participated. And using 4 vehicles, they covered 3974 kilometers. Travelling night and day, they blazed a trail for cross-country travel in the Philippines. They also, in their special way of pioneers, wrote a new page in Philippine motoring history.

FIRST NON-STOP DRIVE

Turismo Pilipino ’69 featured a spectacular record run of the Philippines. Three men, one vehicle, drove non-stop from Zamboanga to Aparri to Manila. Left Zamboanga 12:20 P.M., Aug. 22, 1969. Arrived Manila 3:20 A.M., Aug. 27, 1969. Total time: 111 hours (inclusive of ferry crossing time.) No breakdowns. No repairs. No tire changes.

The vehicle: Volkswagen Country Buggy, Code Name: Lapu-lapu

FIRST ENDURANCE CARAVAN

Eight men. Three vehicles. They set a record of endurance motoring. Eight days on the road. Covering 3974 kilometers from Zamboanga to Aparri to Manila. No repairs. No accidents.

The Men:
